Web 2.0 Expo, Berlin

Web2.0 Just wanted to say that I’ll be attending the Web 2.0 Expo event in Berlin, from the 5th to the 8th of November. This will most surely be an exciting event featuring mini-events such as Workshops, Conferences, a sort of BarCamp called Web2Open and something that I’m pretty curious about, an Ignite event on which whoever wants to make a presentation, he or she must do it with 20 slides each with 15 seconds duration, which makes a 5 minute keynote.

A couple of Portuguese guys that I met during the BarCampPortugal2007 are going to moderate a certain respective couple of conferences. I’m talking about Fred Oliveira, founder (amongst other main roles) of the startup Webreakstuff, who will lead a Design and User Experience panel and Pedro Custódio, from Sapo, who will be talking about “Conversational Design“.

I’ll try to document the whole event live on this blog, with some fancy photos!

JavaPT07 and PPPJ07

JavaPT07

I realize that I generally blog about events when they are about to happen and I’ll try to be a little bit more blog-conscious. In the meantime, here’s an event that’s about to happen.

JavaPT07 is the biggest Java community meet in Portugal and will take place on Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, UNL – home sweet home. Featuring matters such as Netbeans and Glassfish and a free entrance, this event will be filled with both academic and enterprise people, which is great for contact linking. It will be held on the 4th September, 07.

PPPJ07 is a more interactive event, with various workshops between the 5th and 7th September, 07. This event has its (unsurprisingly high) fee, although on the 5th September there will be held several free sessions throughout the day, called the Hands On Sessions covering subjects such as Rapidly Building a Real Life Application With Ajax and Java in the Domain of the Software Games Industry.

So, tomorrow I’ll be heading to my University, a week before classes begin – how depressing is that?

Off to BarCampPortugal2007

Hey guys!

Tomorrow morning I’ll be on my way to BarCampPortugal2007, on Coimbra, Portugal! I’ll try to post some photos and comments on what’s going on.

I’ll be attending this Portuguese Lan Party from the 19th to the 21st October, in Évora.

It will feature many conferences, workshops and speeches from many free software advocates like Jono Bacon – the current Ubuntu Community Manager.

The CNSL, or Concurso Nacional de Software Livre, will be the first Portuguese free software competition and it will also take place over there.

Great work from the guys at NEEI, Universidade de Évora.

Summer Of Code 2007

SOC2007

Google has started accepting student applications for this year’s Summer Of Code.

Here’s the deal: you (students only) commit yourself into developing in a Free / Open source project, and Google will sponsor it and pay you $4.500, and $500 for the correspondent mentoring organization. Isn’t it great? I myself am applying to a couple of projects and hope for one of them to be selected.
