    Let me introduce you to Apple’s Instruments, another amazing semi-hidden application that comes bundled with OS X Developer Tools (yes, I’m looking at you, Quartz Composer). It isn’t quite hidden, it actually lives under /Developer/Application; I’ve just never heard of it! But a few couple of minutes have blown me completely away. Just when I though It wasn’t possible to love the Apple any more.

    Facilis

    Instruments is a super-complete debugging tool that allows you to really focus on application behaviour rather than code. It’s also an amazing software and hardware testing tool, with several modules that can measure everything from CPU time consumption, to UI activity or directories-only I/O. You can use it to run newly created instances of your apps or even by attaching it to running applications.

    IO

    It is a pretty hardcore application in an extremely pleasant package - the kind with which Apple has pampered us, developers, for quite some time. And it makes me think: with products like this, what the hell have all the other development developers been doing? I mean, I’m still debugging the same way I was when I first started programming

    Also from Portugal comes Random Wallpapers, which simply is a feed of very nice wallpapers. It was advertised earlier this week on Paintbits, a personal favourite blog on digital arts.

    This guy and his camera… he astonishes me every time with hi-res wallpapers, almost all of them dedicated to a multi-monitor setup. The wallpapers come in a variety of resolutions to everyone’s comfort. Some really nice paintings also show up, from now and then.

    Gosh. If only I could express the quality of these wallpapers using words. You’ll just have to check it out yourself. Kitsune Noir is the personal blog of Bobby Solomon, designer. Which I admired before for his work and now even more for having pretty much the same tastes as I do in things like movies, music and food.

    Last year Bobby made a tribute to Radiohead’s career by creating a wallpaper for each of the band’s albums, commemorating the launch of their latest album. The result came out excelent. And based off this, he started The Desktop Wallpaper Project in which he invites his favourite artists to present a wallpaper every Wednesday morning until, Flying Spaghetti Monster forbid, the wallpapers run out!
